2nd Annual Shine the Light Fundrasier

2nd Annual Shine The Light Fundraiser – Raising $30,000 to start a Music as Therapy Program at Canadian Mental Health Association – Kamloops Branch

The Rotary Club of Kamloops and Canadian Mental Health Association Kamloops Branch (CMHA) are pleased to announce that the “Shine the Light” community group, in partnership with Flaman Fitness and United Way of Kamloops,
will be hosting a special breakfast with Séan McCann, founding member of Great Big Sea, on April 26th. The breakfast will take place at Thompson Rivers University in the Grand Hall.

Beginning at 7:00am, the event will present Mr. McCann as the featured speaker, during which he will perform select songs from his catalogue. A book & CD signing will follow the presentation - items will be available for purchase.
Our goal for this event is to raise $30,000 to be used to purchase instruments and supplies for CMHA to begin a Music as Therapy program.

CMHA Executive Director, Christa Mullaly:
“Recovery from mental illness is often a complex and lifelong journey that requires different supports along an individual’s journey.
Utilizing music in recovery processes is an evidence based way to support individuals in their personal work from illness to wellness, and through the support of Shine the Light, CMHA Kamloops will be able to establish a therapeutic
music program for our clients.”

Séan McCann uses his music to help people find light in the darkness. Best known as a founding member of the massively successful Canadian band Great Big Sea, Séan’s twenty years with the ensemble came to a halt in 2013, when
he realised that he needed to take time out to deal with both alcohol addiction and coming to terms with the sexual abuse he suffered as a young man. Since then, Séan has been using his words and music to bring healing into his life
and the lives of others.

Shine the Light is a group consisting of members of the Rotary Club of Kamloops and the general community. Each of us has a passion and has been personally touched by mental wellness. Every year we will be raising and
donating funds to a charity of choice with a focus on mental wellness activities.
